Imaging & Representation Standards

Every gemstone presented by The Gem Bureau is documented under controlled and repeatable conditions designed to prioritise accuracy over aesthetic enhancement.

Our imaging process is built to give a truthful representation of each stone, allowing for informed remote evaluation.

All primary images are captured under neutral daylight-balanced lighting (5000–5500K) and diffused environments. This serves as the reference condition for colour, tone, and overall appearance.

Additional images and video may be captured under warmer lighting (2700–3200K) to reflect how a stone may appear in everyday environments. Where applicable, controlled directional lighting is used in video to demonstrate brilliance, fire and light performance.

No artificial enhancement is applied. We do not alter colour, remove inclusions, or digitally improve clarity. Minor adjustments may be made only to align the image with the stone’s real-life appearance under the stated lighting conditions.

Where appropriate, each stone is presented through multiple views and macro perspectives, as well as scale references. Natural characteristics such as inclusions, extinction and variations in colour are intentionally visible as part of full disclosure.

Despite these controls, gemstones may appear differently under varying lighting environments and viewing conditions. Clients are encouraged to request additional imagery or video where required prior to purchase.

This standard reflects our position as a trading desk, where accuracy, transparency and repeatability take precedence over visual interpretation.
