Imaging & Representation Standards

At The Gem Bureau, every gemstone is photographed and recorded using a controlled imaging system designed specifically for gemstones.

Our objective is simple, to present each stone as accurately and consistently as possible, allowing clients to evaluate inventory remotely with confidence.

Standardized Imaging

All gemstones are photographed under controlled lighting and camera conditions using dedicated gemstone imaging equipment. The same imaging environment is used across our inventory to maintain consistency between stones, regardless of species, size, shape or value.

Images and videos are intended to provide a faithful representation of a gemstone's colour, cut, proportions and overall appearance rather than an enhanced or stylized interpretation.

Accuracy Over Enhancement

We do not digitally alter the colour, clarity, transparency or overall appearance of a gemstone.

Post-processing is limited to minor adjustments necessary to ensure that the final image accurately reflects the stone as observed under the documented imaging conditions. We do not remove inclusions, alter colour, increase saturation or artificially enhance brilliance.

Natural characteristics, including inclusions, extinction, colour zoning, growth features and other identifying traits, may be visible and are considered part of a gemstone's individual character.

Images and Video

Where available, inventory may include a combination of:

  • Face-up images
  • Angled views
  • Side profile views
  • Pavilion views
  • Rotational video

These images are intended to help clients assess a gemstone from multiple perspectives and better understand its visual performance.

Understanding Colour

Gemstones are uniquely sensitive to lighting conditions.

A gemstone may appear different when viewed under daylight, office lighting, residential lighting, jewellery store lighting or other environments. Variations in screen calibration, display technology, brightness settings and ambient viewing conditions may also affect how colour is perceived.

For this reason, images and videos should be regarded as a representation of the gemstone under our standardized imaging conditions rather than a guarantee of how the stone will appear in every environment.

Additional Imaging

Additional photographs, videos, and specific views may be available upon request for clients requiring further evaluation prior to purchase.

Our Commitment

The Gem Bureau operates as a gemstone trading desk built on transparency, consistency, and informed decision-making.

Our imaging standards are designed to support those principles by providing a reliable and repeatable visual record of every gemstone we offer.

All gemstones are photographed using a dedicated gemstone imaging system designed specifically for gemstone documentation and remote evaluation operating within a controlled and repeatable environment. The system combines controlled lighting, fixed camera positioning and standardized capture settings to ensure consistency.
